Apologetics is the defence of the Christian Faith. It attempts to give a rational defence of the Christian Faith against attacks of other worldviews that seek to undermine it. There are many different forms of apologetics, historical apologetics, philosophical apologetics, testimony apologetics, each giving reasons why the Christian Faith is true. In an age where the Christian Faith is under attack, Christians need to be equipped with the knowledge to give reasoned explanations of their Faith to their opponents (1 Pet.3:15). Excerpt From Book : Is There a God? Segment of Chapter 3: Eternity in the Hearts of all Men

"... Myths and legends also abound of an “elixir of life”, a potion that when drunk would ward off death and give immortality. The practice of Alchemy in early India, China and Europe concerned itself with trying to find and make this substance. It was rumoured to give eternal youth and immortality to those who drank it. Although Alchemy is now seen as a superstitious, non-scientific practice, its goal of seeking immortality is now being taken up by science. Some scientists today are seeking ways to extend human life and slow down cell decay in our bodies, which is a cause of ageing. Scientists are experimenting with the enzyme, Telomerase that can prevent cells from dying and help extend human life. We now have organisations dedicated to finding ways to extend human life such as the Immortality Institute, Alcor Life Extension Foundation and The Cryonics Institute, all based in the United States. Other medical technological advances in genetics, cloning and regenerative medicine are looking at ways of replacing damaged and decaying body organs and limbs to extend human life. Cryonics is the practice of freezing human bodies in cryogenic chambers in the hope of reviving them when science has found cures to their diseases and can revive people from death. Another idea for extending human life and achieve immortality, is the concept of “mind uploading.” Some scientists and futurists are saying that one day it will be possible to upload human consciousness itself onto a computer system interface. That a person’s consciousness, their thoughts, intellect, and memories could be stored in a virtual computer environment forever thus making them immortal! It seems that human beings will stop at nothing to extend their lives and live forever!

If you search deep within yourself, you will see that there is a desire to live on, even to live forever. We want to keep on living even though our bodies are ageing. Death is something we do not welcome for our families or ourselves. The atheist argues that human beings have invented these concepts as a way of coping with death. Atheists since Freud have said that our desire for eternity and immortality is purely a psychological way of helping us cope with death. If we believe that there is an afterlife, we can cope with death because we see ourselves surviving it. Evolutionary atheists argue that the desire to live forever and seek immortality was valuable for the human race in the past, to cope with the trauma of death. They say that these beliefs are “relics” of a primitive era in our evolutionary history when we needed to believe in these ideas. Some even contend that eternity and immortality are “memes”, units of religious information that are passed on from one generation to another through repetition. They argue that ideas and beliefs are “memes” cultural units of information that act like viruses living in the minds of human beings through repetition over generations. According to this view, concepts such as God, eternity, immortality are not real at all, but cultural units of information (memes) that have managed to survive over thousands of years. Richard Dawkins put forward the idea of the “meme” in 1976 in his book “The Selfish Gene”, and many evolutionists use it today to explain the origin of religion. However, there is no empirical scientific evidence for the existence of”memes.” There is no scientific way of detecting this hypothetical unit of cultural information in the human brain. The concept of the “meme” is simply a non-scientific attempt by some atheists to explain away the origin and persistence of religion in the world today!... ..." This is a segment of Chpater 3
